About Sushi 456

Tucked away in the bustling streets of New York City, Sushi 456 is a small gem nestled on Hudson Street in the heart of the West Village. The fact that it's somewhat off the beaten path only adds to its charm, making it a delightful destination for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine without the pretentiousness often found in the city's more hyped spots.

At first glance, the interior may appear cozy and unassuming—don’t be deceived by its modesty. The real magic lies in the gentle hum of the sushi chef at work behind the counter, meticulously crafting each piece as if it’s a work of art. To start, tempura options are light and crispy, setting the stage for what’s to come. But it's the sushi and sashimi where Sushi 456 truly shines. Freshness seems to be their secret ingredient, evident in the melt-in-your-mouth toro and the vibrant slices of hamachi.

Exploring beyond the traditional fare, the chef’s selection omakase is an adventure that one should dare not miss. Each bite tells a story of the ocean, delivering layers of complex flavors that are both unexpected and delightful. For those less adventurous, classics such as spicy tuna rolls or California rolls are executed with precision and a nod to tradition, ensuring even the faint of heart find satisfaction within the menu.

Located at 456 Hudson St, the venue might be easy to overlook, but the word is out, and for good reason. Diners who've stumbled upon this spot have left in awe of the quality and have taken to various review platforms to rave about their experiences. Many echo the sentiment that this place feels like a slice of Tokyo right in the city, with a calm intimacy that provides a serene escape from the urban hustle.

In an area saturated with dining options, finding a place that pairs authenticity with unpretentious ambiance is akin to striking gold. Whether it's a date night, a casual dinner with friends, or a solo sushi indulgence, Sushi 456 promises an experience that feels both special and personal. Small but mighty, this spot leaves a lasting impression, not through grandeur, but sheer mastery of its craft.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — carlos borges
This spot nails the ambiance—the low lighting creates an intimate, sophisticated vibe. The sushi counter is the real star here; it’s spacious and perfectly angled so you can watch the chefs work their magic. We opted for the nigiri set and the uni, both of which were fresh. While we sat at a table, the service was a bit underwhelming compared to the high-end feel of the food and decor.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — Olga NYC
The service was efficient and friendly. We were seated almost immediately, even without a reservation. The Vegetable Maki and Nigiri Special were fresh and flavorful, and the mochi at the end was a sweet touch. Overall, a good experience — a nice sushi place worth visiting!

Sushi spot waiting to become the next popular kid on the block - they have a menu at great value with premium ingredients, including uni, toro and caviar. I enjoyed the attention for service and was happy with my whole experience here!

I’ve recently been on an Omakase kick and this place is a must try. Gotta love that it’s BYOB and to make things even better, there’s a liquor store across the street. We started with some edamame and the tuna & avocado in soy apps. Both were great. For dinner we tried the 10 piece chef selection that comes with a hand roll. All 10 were chefs kiss 🤌🏻🤌🏻 The spicy scallop hand roll was so good I had to order 2nd. Lovely spot and have been back multiple times.

We got the 15 piece omakase nigiri on an unusually calm night (we were the only diners). The Chef was extremely friendly and personable and the sushi was out of this world. The fish is all fresh, amazing, and the sushi rice is warm and flavorful, which changes everything. Check it out.
